Sol Negate Introduces Themselves With Visionary Progressive Death Album "On the Verge of Dreaming Again''
Sol Negate emerged from the mind of Edoardo Curatolo in Seattle, USA. He had the intention to compose music in a classical manner, but with modern guitars/drums as part of the orchestral ensemble. He wanted to “paint” using the palette that extreme metal offers without necessarily writing traditional metal songs. With the aid of drummer Sebastian Lanser (ex-Obscura, Juvaliant, Obsidious) finalizing drum parts and making them his own along with vocalist Riley McShane (Continuum, ex-Allegaeon) taking on the concept to add his unique lyrics and vocal parts, the result transformed into the debut album "On the Verge of Dreaming Again", which challenges the boundaries of progressive death metal. Curatolo explains what’s in store:
“It explores the journey of the mind as one approaches death, reliving moments of life flashing before their eyes and experiencing the fall into the unknown. Each track on the album represents a passage of time, reflecting how seemingly insignificant experiences can leave lasting imprints and how perceptions of events can continue to haunt us even in our final moments.” The album, "On the Verge of Dreaming Again," is more than just a collection of tracks; it is a carefully crafted concept album, centered around the themes of death and dreams, that invites listeners to embark on a profound musical journey. Best experienced from start to finish, with headphones on, late in the evening, the album offers a deeply personal experience that evolves with each listen. The progressive side of this endeavor was about making the music both fun and interesting while concealing the complexity of the composition. Those who appreciate 'crazy' time signatures, unconventional song structures, and intricate approaches, will discover them within the music, but it won't feel like a gimmick. "On the Verge of Dreaming Again" is symphonic and progressive without sacrificing being heavy. It is recommended listening for fans of Fleshgod Apocalypse, Dream Theater, and Obscura. "On the Verge of Dreaming Again" will be available as of September 26th, 2023 on Spotify, Apple Music, SolNegate.bandcamp.com. Note: Special Instrumental Version of the album is only available on the band's Bandcamp. Lieder Distortion, hailing from Sweden, introduces their newest work, "The Age of Art," released under Shunu Records on the 22nd of September, 2023. The album, available in digital format, is a humble yet earnest exploration of Progressive Rock and Opera, genres that are distinct yet harmoniously blended in this collection. The inception of the album can be traced back to the band’s affinity for "Don Giovanni," which is not only a favorite but also a significant influence, echoing in the powerful music and themes throughout the album. Each piece in "The Age of Art" is a nod to the classical repertoire that Lieder Distortion was immersed in during their time at the Opera College, reflecting a journey that traversed through the realms of band performances and operatic studies. The fusion of genres is a delicate balance, drawing inspiration from diverse musical landscapes, reminiscent of Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody and the timeless compositions of Mozart. While Lieder Distortion has been playing in bands since the tender age of 10, the venture into this album has been a realization of a covert dream, a narrative crafted alongside dedicated musicians and producers. The project is a sincere attempt to contribute to the musical tapestry, inviting listeners who find solace in the works of Therion, Queen, Classical Music, Tarja Turunen, and Mozart, to experience a modest yet heartfelt musical journey. On September 9, 2023, the first full-length album from Belgian metal band Catalyst will be released, called 'The Age Of Rocketeers’.
For fans of progressive and melodic deathmetal….
Notable Belgian metal band takes you on a sonic journey through time and space Belgium, Sint-Niklaas, September 9 - Get ready for a musical supernova that transcends the boundaries of reality, because on September 9, 2023, CATALYST will launch its long-awaited masterpiece "The Age of Rocketeers." This epic symphony of sound and meaning marks a milestone in the band's musical evolution, and it's a journey you won't want to miss. After previous feats with "CATALYST I" and "CATALYST II," the band is back with a full album that will shake the music scene. The journey begins with a series of explosive live performances in legendary locations such as Kavka in Antwerp, Casino in Sint-Niklaas, Biebob in Vosselaar, and Hell in Diest. Instead of opting for the usual 'singles and ready' approach, CATALYST decided to go full throttle with a complete album. The result? An extraordinary collection of eight songs that will undoubtedly blow you away, plus a mysterious instrumental interlude that will make you wonder, "Is this music or an alien symphony?" How does something like this come about? The ability to distill the essence from 1000 riffs and solos and string them together into works of art like steel wire (Philip, lead composer), an antagonist who stubbornly confronts them with the shredder and leaves his own stamp on them (Aäron, among others, composer of "Constructed truth/Pravda!"). A rehearsal space where an eclectic mix of fungi thrives provided the perfect environment for creating musical magic. Here, a drummer roams tirelessly, exploring his own limits and setting the perfect rhythm (Sam, all percussion). Not to forget Benjamin (Bass, second vocal) and Jeroen (first vocal), who regularly dock here with bold compositions and intense duets. You'd better take the cutting lyrics aimed at society in stride. The songs were recorded at Project Zero Recording Studio by Yarne Heylen. This was accompanied not only by a lot of focus and dedication, but also by a lot of (philosophical) chatter, processing, birthday steak dinners, string replacements, throat lubrication, and pranks with the intern. Weeks of intimate togetherness, with some choosing the luxury B&B and others opting for a hermitage, certainly made the band stronger than ever. All art is Human Made by the hand of Lien Van Ranst (sister of Frontman Jeroen). For the front artwork, we see a boy rushing towards the departing rockets, blinded by the explosions. The artwork takes space exploration as a symbol and metaphor for societal evolution, where a few individuals become so powerful and influential that they de factoshape a large part of our world and the future of humanity. Tortured - Genetically Engineered MonstrosityBrutal Death Metal
Stitched and spliced, fused and bound, a construct of manipulated organic growth and twisted architectural ingenuity. Drawn from a vat of pain, there is nothing within your agonised shell but an obscene strength and raging, perverse appetite. With no controlling conscience or moral guidance – you are too dangerous to be allowed to live, yet too impossibly fascinating to destroy. So here you are, in your gore-soaked paradise prison, wading through the carnage of your discarded projects. You breed them, feed them, dissect them and rebuild them; following in your father’s footsteps. You break them, consume them, pulverize and shatter them, before they join the rotting collection of offal, swaying gently from their hooks. And your father watches you through his electric eye, his imperfect son, his beloved creature, his genetically engineered monstrosity. If the malicious beast that is brutal death metal could be strapped to an operating table, if its essence could be extracted like spinal fluid with a long, cruel needle, then within that viscous, poisonous fluid you would find the sound of Tortured. This international assembly of elite exponents of the brutal arts have defined the rotten soul of death metal’s darkest offspring. It has been a long wait since 2020s The Limb Collector EP first hinted at what Tortured were capable of with its short, sharp shock of violence, but every second of those intervening years has been justified by the arrival of their full length debut. Genetically Engineered Monstrosity is an absolutely electrifying, breathtaking, bludgeoning assault. The gloriously grotesque riffs are carved from your flesh by the six string scalpel of Oscar Ortega (Cystectomy, Strappado etc) while the blast beats rain down like hammers to the skull and ghastly, inhuman vocals vomit from the abyss. The relentless, remorseless ‘Human Bait’ is deaf to all pleas for mercy, while the crushing pressure of ‘Boiled To Death’ will see internal organs exploding from every orifice. To the last devastating notes of ‘Gruesome Chastisement’ Genetically Engineered Monstrosity is utter nirvana for those hopelessly addicted to the bloody and battering sounds of extreme death. This is a master class in absolute bone breaking brutality. Mixed and mastered by Alexander Borovykh at Tsun Tsun Productions (Aborted Fetus, Insect Inside, Kraanium etc) Genetically Engineered Monstrosity hits hard, with unfathomable levels of power; when Comatose Music set this killer loose on July 7th the levels of destruction will be overwhelming. Housed in the grim and grisly artwork of scene legend Jon Zig (Deeds Of Flesh, Defeated Sanity, Houwitser etc) Tortured’s debut album is going to be adored by gore hounds and blood junkies in every unsanitary underground dungeon the world over. This is unflinching, undiluted, ultraviolent brutal death metal – accept no imitations.
